Is there anything to do in New York City?
>> Just being exposed to a multitude of new events is often not enough to stimulate us into actually going to those events. If you really want to get out more, you need to work up enthusiasm about your own special interests. Consider the following tips:
- Write a simple I love to do list. It should contain between seven and ten topics that interest you. Arrange your list from the most desirable down to interesting.
- If you can't identify at least seven interests, start paying attention to your everyday life. Out of all your activities, identify the ones that make you happy, no matter how simple. You'll find that over time, if you expand upon simple things, a world full of opportunity follows.
- After finishing your list, write down at least ten specific "to do" ideas for each topic. Examples:
Do you enjoy putting on makeup? Well, makeovers are preformed at every major New York City department store by makeup professionals who often serve the entertainment industry. Then there are visits to cosmetology and hair styling schools. If that's not enough, discover more about theatrical makeup (Google "new york theatrical makeup"). From there, explore costuming, wigs and the beauty of face painting (think "designer John Galliano's models for Dior").
Maybe you crave sports. In that case, check out the TV stations that cover sporting events. Also identify the teams associated with colleges and universities and see what they're up to. Talk to people at franchised league stores to find out if there are any special events being held. No matter what, always review Madison Square Garden's event list. And, of course, pay attention to local team schedules (NY Giants, NY Jets, NY Knicks, NY Rangers, and NY Red Bulls). Consider horse races, too!
Like reality shows? What are contestants doing that you'd like to try? Activities involving ballroom dancing, modeling, fashion design, and decorating (to name a few things) can most certainly be found in New York City!
- To help find more specific ideas for each item on your "I love to do" list, read or watch the media associated with your interests, read fiction, and view movies with related themes. www.Netflix.com is a perfect site to hunt for idea-expanding information.
- After you go someplace special, compose a list of the things you enjoyed. Re-read your lists frequently. If, when re-reading, you start thinking about new ideas, write those down, too. The more you familiarize yourself with your own desires, the easier it'll be to find things that make you happy.
You'll find that you'll have an easier time finding things to do if you say "I'm going to visit New York City because I am going involve myself in the (named) activities I love," rather than expecting your visit to New York to be fulling because there are a lot of things to see.
